Iain Hume described being back among the goals for Preston North End as ‘brilliant’ after he scored the opener in the Lilywhites’ 2-1 win over Swindon.

Hume: It Felt Brilliant
28 September 2013
The Canada international netted an early header to put Preston ahead in the first half against the Robins, after Kevin Davies had his shot saved by Wes Foderingham.
And, when asked what it felt like to net his first goal for PNE in over a year, Hume told PNE.Com: “Brilliant, I love those little poacher goals.
“It’s not something I’m renowned for so to get my head on that and contribute to the win was massively important and to get off the mark for the season.
“Hopefully, there’s plenty more to come.”
He added: “It’s been a while, when was the last goal I scored for Preston? April 2012? Exactly, there you go.
“It meant a lot and I’m over the moon, don’t get me wrong I love scoring goals but to get the three points is the main thing and obviously to enjoy the rest of the weekend now.”
The link-up play between Hume, Kevin Davies and Stuart Beavon up-front clearly caused Swindon problems in defence.
The trio have started together in North End’s last three fixtures and have bagged goals in each of those games.
And, while Hume concedes their partnership isn’t quite telepathic just yet, he believes it is well on its way to being so.
“It’s not at that point yet but we’re getting there,” he continued.
“The two of them are working brilliantly as a front two and I’m just trying to geg into it and do my bit.
“Obviously if they can continue playing the way they are and I can get up to the level they are then I think we’ll be trouble for anyone around here.
“It’s just down to us, keep going, keep playing together and hopefully keep scoring goals.”
Having dominated the opening exchanges against Mark Coopers’ side, North End were unfortunate to have gone into the break just one goal ahead.
After half time however, an early Jay McEverley own goal – in highly bizarre circumstances – allowed the Lilywhites to relax and enjoy their football.
“To get that goal in the second half has take a bit of weight off our shoulders because we should have been a few more up at half time but that’s this league,” Hume said.
“Everybody has got to work hard, we did everything we planned, getting that second one has helped us but then I think we took our foot off the gas towards the end of the game and let them back into it, which is unlike us – especially at the back.
“But, hey, three points – we see the positives and the negatives and move on.”
The win means the Lilywhites are now fourth in League One, with 19 points, and ensures their unbeaten start to the season continues.
But the 29-year-old forward insists North End are simply taking each game as it comes and their attention now switches to the trip to Peterborough next weekend.
“It’s nice to look at and nice to say we’re nine games unbeaten in the league but we do literally take the old cliché in that we’ve got a big game next week,” he added.
“We’ve done our job today and we’ve worked hard and we’re going to enjoy it, but next week’s a new target for us and we’re just looking at that now.”
