Gaffer Hoping To Mark Anniversary With Three Points

16 February 2017

Manager Simon Grayson is hoping to mark his fourth anniversary as PNE boss with a win against Wigan Athletic at the weekend.

Saturday marks four years since Grayson was appointed at Deepdale, and after a fantastic week with six points from two games, the gaffer is hoping to celebrate with another victory.

"It would be extremely pleasing to do that. We celebrated Snods' birthday with a win on Tuesday night and hopefully we can have more of the same on Saturday.

"The four years has gone very quickly, I would like to think we have made progress both on and off the pitch so it would be a great way to celebrate four years in charge with a victory.

"That's what we are striving for week in, week out. We've had two wins this week which has been vital and they have been enjoyable performances and victories and Saturday will be no different.

"Whether it's marking four years in charge or not, it's about winning games and maintaining what we are doing."

North End had an impressive record in the derby games on the road last season and the gaffer thinks the sell out away end, of over 4,700 PNE fans, will certainly play its part this weekend.

"When you look back at last year at the number of sell outs we had in the local derbies against Bolton, Burnley and Blackburn and we went and got victories at all three grounds.

"So the fans do play a part, it will be a sea of yellow on Saturday and the noise coming from the away end does inspire the players.

"I feel we can get the same sort of performance that we have been getting but also the same sort of results that we got last year in the derby games as well.

The Latics may find themselves at the wrong end of the table but the gaffer won't be changing his approach to the game, knowing that every game is tough in the Championship, especially when teams have so much to play for.

"All through the season, you know that the Championship is very difficult anyway with the games that you are playing, the performances and the individuals that you are up against.

"We are now getting to the stage of the season where it really matters to teams, some teams need to win at the top end of the division to get in the Play-Offs or to get out of the bottom three so we know what is at stake.

"All we need to do it think about what we need to do to keep improving, keep working towards our goal of improving from last year.

"We've had a good week so far, hopefully we can round it off to being a great week."
