Preston North End

North End went behind just two minutes before the break when centre half Mathieu Baudry headed home, unmarked, from eight yards out into the bottom left hand corner and they doubles their lead just after the hour mark when Lisbie converted from 12 yards out after taking the ball off the feet of team mate David Mooney.

North End, with four changes to the side that had drawn 0-0 with Notts County in the midweek – three of them enforced through injury – saw Todd Kane given his professional debut on the right side of midfield and the Chelsea youngster had a hat-trick of chances in the opening period.

North End played the better football and had the majority of the possession before the Orient opener. An early Jack King shot was well-saved by Ryan Allsop in the home goal, but the best chances in the period fell to the on loan No.14.

The first came inside the first ten minutes. It was a fantastic spell of passing football from the half way line – Nicky Wroe and King finding Holmes who eventually threaded the ball inside the full back for Kane to run on and fire a low right footed drive; that Allsop blocked with his legs.

On the half hour mark chance number two fell to the full back-cum-right midfielder, as Wroe’s cross-field ball was perfectly directed for Kane running in at back post, but he headed wide from a good opportunity to further test the home side’s stopper.

And it was three good chances just two minutes later as again Wroe drove through from midfield and pushed the ball into his new team mate’s path, but this time he fired over from the right hand corner of the box.

The Brisbane Road outfit grabbed the lead two minutes before the interval. A corner from the right hand side was not cleared fully and a cross back in from right the by Dean Cox was met by No.6 Baudry. It was a simple header, unmarked, into bottom left hand corner of the goal, with a scrambling Steve Simonsen unable to keep it out.

The rain was driving into East London as the second half got underway and North End were still zipping it around on the damp surface, Kane almost lifting a cross for Jack King at the back post four minutes into the half.

Just before the hour mark Graham Cummins replaced Bailey Wright, Jack King moving to right back.

However, it was 2-0 just 90 seconds later. North End were caught out by a ball over the top and David Mooney went through, before Kevin Lisbie nipped the ball off his own team mate and slid it under Simonsen into the back of the net from the penalty spot.

In the aftermath, the referee seemed to be injured, replaced by fourth official Michael Blackledge.

Kane was denied yet again by Allsop on 66 minutes as he raced onto a clever ball from Beavon in a right hand channel.

Sodje added to the fire power for Jack King with 20 minutes left.

North End were throwing everything forward as Holmes saw a shot turned behind for a corner, which was scrambled away from Wroe's feet.

Sodje then saw a close range effort cleared off the line by goalscorer Baudry from Nicky Wroe's corner.

A barrage of corners came over with Sodje heading a good chance wide of the left hand post with ten minutes still on the clock. Elding had just been thrown into the mix up top with North End playing 4-2-1-3.

North End had the ball cleared off the line twice in the space of ten seconds from Sodje and Robertson and then from the corner once again from Elding as the Lilywhites did everything but get the ball in the net!

It was unbelievable stuff as Alsopp denied Sodje with an amazing tip away from a right wing cross; it was chance after chance with Orient somehow surviving with North End building up a huge head of steam.

Eight minutes of stoppage time were added on, but it was not enough for North End to get anything from a game where had a hat full of chances.
